Q: Ok, what is „sia” about?
Sia is a mobile application for students in the field of Digital Media at the University of Applied Sciences Ulm. It is an attempt to automate the information gathering process for users. The application provides data to organize the daily life at the campus.
Q: There are tons of apps doing the same, right?
I would say no. „Sia” is almost 100% automated and only displays data the user really requires. Besides that, the user should always be in full control over the application. Whenever he wants to change something, “sia” will guide and support him and be as customizable as possible. The concept behind the application tries to break new grounds. Build-in features are state of the art and using techniques completely new to the market, e.g. Indoor Navigation with the help of Augmented Reality and Near Field Communication.

Q: Tell me more about your attempt for Indoor Navigation?
The problem with Indoor Navigation is the missing GPS signal. To bypass that "sia" is using Near Field Communication tags spread in the building. The whole process is based on the idea of a point-to-point navigation. At each point, the user touches the tag with his smaprtphone and will then be navigated to his next stop, until he arrives at his destination. Take a look at the ↗demonstration to get a feeling on how it works..
Q: A 100% automated? Tell me more!
I am using content prediction to make the whole process automated. As a consequence the application is able to provide data the user really wants to see. Content prediction often comes with the condition that the user has to fill out a large amount of data. “Sia” only wants to have one single data from the user - the semester..
